Best Time to Visit
May–September is best — the TT (Tourist Trophy motorcycle races, late May/early June) is the island's most famous event and one of the world's most extraordinary motorsport events; 300,000+ spectators descend on an island of 85,000. The Snaefell Mountain Railway, Laxey Wheel (the world's largest working waterwheel), and the coastal path are excellent summer pursuits.

Social Etiquette
- The Isle of Man is a Crown Dependency — not part of the UK, not part of the EU, with its own parliament (Tynwald, established 979 CE — the world's oldest continuous parliament)
- The TT Races are genuinely one of the world's most dramatic sporting events — riders average 200km/h on public roads through villages
- Manx cats (the breed without a tail, or with a shortened tail) originated here — you can see them at the Manx National Heritage
- The Manx language (a Gaelic language closely related to Irish and Scottish Gaelic) was revived from near-extinction in the 20th century
Local Laws
Laws change. Verify current rules with your country's official travel advisory before departure.
- Isle of Man has its own laws separate from the UK — cannabis is illegal
- LGBTQ+ rights equal to the UK — marriage equality since 2016
